The AFL Thread
I don't know how many AFL fans browse the forums but I've started this anyway. 4 Rounds have gone. I'm tipping either St Kilda or Geelong to win the premiership and Fremantle to win the wooden spoon. Even though Richmond are bad I think Fremantle are worse.
As for the swans, they have been alright but they have to win away from home as well as at home. Sydney could be a fortress this year but they need to win on the road as well. But they should beat Laughing Stock (Fremantle) comfortably.

I am tipping St Kilda, they deserve it after all these years.

Re: The AFL Thread
Can hardly wait to see Hawthorn in Tassie. It is like a fortress to them.
I think Launceston should have their own AFL team. They get 15,000 to every game, and with Launceston's population 90,000 that is the equivelent of getting around 250,000 at the MCG.
But until then it is good to see the hawks play down there.

Re: The AFL Thread
So far I have got 4 tips right everyround
the Swans were poor against Freo as were the kangas against Richmond. Adelaide v Melbourne has to be the worst game of the year. I just hate the way Adelaide play, that's why I call them The Negativity Captains. I still think the Saints can win. If not definatly Geelong. They were excellent last weekend.

Re: The AFL Thread
Quite an easy round to tip. Among this week's games are Melbourne v Geelong and Sydney v Richmond.

Re: The AFL Thread
I was looking through next weekend's games and a couple have caught my eye and bought up big (but old) issues. I'm not tipping to tip yet (Wednesday morning maybe).
Collingwood v St Kilda on Monday night: First time in quite a few years they are playing on a Monday night. Very interesting testing Monday nights. But unfortunatly if it was at the MCG instead of Etihad there could be more. It is a Collingwood home game (Who are an MCG club) v St Kilda, with no other games that night. Comes to mind a couple of years ago Collingwood v Hawthorn that should have been at the MCG but was at Etihad (known then as the Telstra Dome), denying probably 20-30,000 fans access.
In the depths of winter there are never night games at the MCG, I wonder why that is? If it's cold, so what it has been cold for 100 years. What difference does it make undercover? It could draw 70,000 if it was at the MCG, What makes it more confusing is that Collingwood are an MCG club. When Etihad was built in 2000, the AFL at that time assured the games there would fit that capacity. Probably brings up an issue that has been bought up twice that Etihad wasn't built big enough. When they shut down Waverly and came to Etihad then went from 75,000 to 53,500. IMO MCG clubs should be allowed to play home games at the MCG and Etihad clubs play games at Etihad.
Kangaroos v Port Adelaide on Saturday night: How many roos fans will turn up on a Saturday night with not as many opposition fans (compared to if they were against a Victorian club)? I reckon only 15,000. Roos v Port drew only 25,000 in 2005 for a final. Sure they got 40,000 last Friday but a majority of them were Collingwood fans. And I think their next 2 afterwards are against Freo and Brisbane.
The kangaroos to me cannot survive in Melbourne. They should've moved to the Gold Coast, as it is costing more and more per year to run a match and they may be able to survive for 1 year, 3 years, 5 years or even 10 years but what about in the long term (In the next 25 years, 50 years, 75 years, 100 years down the track)?
Fitzroy, were given a chance to move in the 1970's, the chance to keep their name, colours theme and song but they thought they could survive, they hung on and hung on and when it came they were swallowed up by another club. I like the roos and I don't want to see that happening to them.
The Swans had the chance to move took it (Although TBF the Swans's only other choice was extinction) and they have been doing much better in Sydney than they were in South Melbourne. They have go to keep their name and theme song.

[I think the swans may be in trouble they are equal on 2 points with 8 other clubs the lowest 14th, highest 7th. Where will they finish this year?
